Objective: To appraise and discuss the role and challenges of being a woman in chemistry from an Indian perspective.
The members of the department attended a focus group meeting on ‘Women in Chemistry: Indian Perspective’ held on 21st July 2022 where Dr. Sweta Raghavan was the invited guest. She is a representative of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), a researcher and a founder of Scientists & Co. which is a social initiative to promote science education among students from disadvantaged and underprivileged backgrounds. She has been conducting a study to understand the challenges and bias faced by women in chemistry from an Indian perspective. The focus group meeting was a round table discussion where the faculty members and research scholars of the department voiced their opinions candidly and discussed the role of personal and professional aids and interventions to shape their careers. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks extended by the Head of the Department to Dr. Sweta.
Outcome: The attendees enjoyed interacting with Dr. Sweta, a global activist and presented their opinions candidly to effectively contribute to the objective of this focus group meeting.
