This course will enable the students to

understand the basic concept of scientific writing, importance of literature survey and IPR for their dissertation work.

  1. CO208: Explain epistemology, including sources of knowledge, rationalism, empiricism, and the relationship between science, technology and ethics.
  2. CO209: Develop proficiency in hypothesis formulation and data analysis techniques.
  3. CO210: Enhance research skills through literature surveys and understanding of scientometrics.

CO213: Compile a literature review on the topic of interest.

Approach in teaching:

Self directed learning, demonstration,

digital learning, field visit.

 

Learning activities for the students:

Literature survey, software and instrument handling, synopsis writing.

Power point presentation by individual student, report writing and viva voce.

Written examinations,

Assignments and quiz.

 

Unit I: 

Part I: Research Methodology (30 Hours)

                                                                                                                                   

Unit I : Epistemology:                                                                    (6 Hours)

sources of knowledge. Rationalism and empiricism. Assumptions and Limitations of science, philosophy, logic and ethics, Science and technology, theory, law, postulate.                                                                                                                            Unit II: Hypothesis:                                                                        (6 Hours)

Types, characteristics, chemical knowledge, scientific method, research process, causality, experimental research. Data analysis, mean and standard deviation- absolute and relative errors, linear regression, covariance and correlation coefficient.                                                                                                                                    

Unit III: Literature Survey:                                                           (6 Hours)

Importance, types of sources, databases collection, collation, management and retrieval of references. Scientometry-citations, impact factor, H-index.                                                                                                                         

Unit IV: Scientific Writing:                                                           (6 Hours)

Types of research papers, writing of research paper, review, thesis, reviewing process of research paper, ethics in research and publishing.            

 

Unit V: Intellectual property Right (IPR):                                  (6 Hours)

Tangible and intangible assets, IP and IPR, Types of IPR, issues related to patenting, format of patent.

Part II: Review of Literature   (60 Hours)

 

This has been incorporated, with the aim that the candidate does extensive literature survey on a topic of choice and further take up project or dissertation on the same topic in the subsequent semester.
