     Title of the Event: Departmental Orientation

      Target Group: UG and PG Semester I Students

      No. of participants: 30

 

 Objective: To formally introduce the new students of Semester I (UG and PG) to the    

  Department of Chemistry.

 

A Departmental orientation session was held on 11th August 2023 from 12.00 to 2.00 pm in Ojas Hall where the students of Semester V (UG) and Semester III (PG) formally welcomed the new students to the department.

 

The orientation session commenced with an informative presentation by Prof. Manisha Patni, Head of Department. Through a detailed PowerPoint presentation, the Head, Department of Chemistry provided essential information to the new students. The presentation covered a wide range of topics including the faculty profile, the departmental website, class time-tables, the location of the department, classrooms, and labs. During the orientation session,   Prof. Patni also  acquainted the students with the structure of the course curricula, subject-wise credit system, course outcomes (COs), program outcomes (POs), and program learning outcomes (PSOs) were meticulously explained. Prof. Patni also explained the examination scheme encompassing assessment and evaluation pattern.

 

 

 

 

       

 

In addition to academic information, the presentation provided insights into the department's library system and the availability of E-resources. This emphasis on learning resources underscored the department's commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment for the students.

Moreover, Head also apprised the students with the various co-curricular aspects such as IISU Chemical Association, elucidating its role and purposes as well as an overview of the department's activity calendar and upcoming activities offering a glimpse into the department's dynamic environment, which further enriched their understanding about the department.

 

                        

In an effort to foster a comfortable and interactive environment, the senior students creatively hosted some fun-interactive ice-breaking games which was enjoyed by all. These creative and fun-filled activities provided an excellent platform for the new students to connect with their peers. An integral part of the session was the sharing of personal experiences by the new students within the university so far thereby facilitating a seamless transition for the newcomers into the university environment.

The orientation session ended with a collective group photograph , symbolizing the unity and sense of belonging within the Department of Chemistry.

The informative and helpful nature of the orientation ensured that it was a valuable experience for all involved.

Outcome: In conclusion, the departmental orientation session successfully provided an informative and engaging introduction for the new students. By encompassing essential academic information, interactive activities, and personal sharing. The session successfully achieved its purpose of integrating new students into the vibrant community of the Department of Chemistry. Also all the attendees gave their feedback regarding the orientation session.
