Inorganic Synthesis
This exercise carries 18 marks. Four marks out of 18 are reserved for neat, methodical and systematic working. The exercise amongst the candidates will be allotted by lot.
The yield, purity and proper presentation of the compound shall be taken into account while awarding marks.
Detection of organic compound
This exercise carries 24 marks. The distribution of marks will be as follows.
· Physical properties: colour, state, odour 1 mark
· Ignition test (Aliphatic/Aromatic) 1 mark
· Solubility 1 mark
· Action on litmus paper 1 mark
· Element detection 4 marks

· M.P./B.P. 2 marks
· Confirmatory test of compound 2 marks
· Derivative – procedure & m.p. 2 marks
· Result 4 marks
Physical Chemistry Experiment:
The exercise carries 16 marks. 4 marks shall be awarded for preparatory work, setting up of an apparatus, neat and methodical work.
Eight marks will be awarded for correct observation, use of correct formula, calculation and result within permissible limits
· Theory and procedure 3 marks
· Correct observation and proper recording 3 marks
· Use of correct formula and calculation 3 marks
· Result 3 marks
Viva:
Oral questions shall generally be asked over the work assigned to the candidate. The purpose is to find out as to what extent the candidate has understood the basic principles of chemistry.
