Unit I: 

Volumetric analysis: Iodo / Iodimetric Titrations

Theory: Basic principles of iodo and iodimetric titrations.

Experiments:

· Estimation of Cu(II) and K2Cr2O7 using sodium thiosulphate solution (Iodimetrically).

· Estimation of (i) arsenite and (ii) antimony in tartar-emetic (Iodimetrically).

· Estimation of available chlorine in bleaching powder (Iodometrically).

· Determination of percentage of copper in copper sulphate crystals (iodometrically).

 

 

 

Inorganic preparations

· Preparation of cuprous chloride, Cu2Cl2.

· Preparation of manganese(III) phosphate, MnPO4.H2O.

· Preparation of aluminium potassium sulphate KAl(SO4)2.12 H2O (potash alum) or chrome alum.

· Preparation of basic beryllium acetate, 3Be(CH3COO)2.BeO.

· Preparation of barium dithionate, BaS2O6.2H2O.

Inorganic preparations 20 marks

Volumetric analysis

The exercise carries 35 marks. The distribution of marks will be as follows:

Five marks will be reserved for the preparation of solutions, neat methodical and systematic working of the candidate.The remaining 30 marks will be distributed as follows:

 

Theory 3 marks

Correct observation and proper recording 10 marks

Use of correct formula and calculation 7 marks

Inorganic preparation

This exercise carries 20 marks. Five marks are reserved for neat, methodical and systematic working. The exercise amongst the candidates will be allotted by lot. The yield, purity and proper presentation of the compound shall be taken into account while awarding marks.

 

Viva

Oral questions shall generally be asked over the work assigned to the candidate. The purpose is to findout as to what extent the candidate has understood the basic principles.
