Objective: 

1.  Introduction to concentration scales- Definition , units of various concentration terms.

2.  Preparation of solutions and their standardization.

3.  Preparation of standard buffers and determination of pH of a solution.

4.  Verification of Beer Lambert’s Law.

5.  Qualitative tests for :

  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins and amino acids
  • Lipids

6.  Determination of saponification value and iodine number of fats.

7.  Estimation of ascorbic acid by titrimetric method using 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol.

8.  Estimation of

  • Carbohydrate by anthrone method/Benedicts method.
  • Blood glucose by the methods

                   a) Folin-Wu

                   b) Nelson-Somogyi

9.  Isolation and assay of glycogen from rat liver.

10. Extraction of total lipids by Folch method
