The department of Chemistry of the IIS University organized the industrial visit to a carpet industry in jaipur that is Bharat Industries on 31st Oct 2017. The visit was supervised by Pratibha Ma’am and Tanuja Ma,am. There were 20 students of M.Sc final. The bus leave the college at 9.30 in the morning.
When we reached the industry, Alexander Sir guided us about the working and functioning of the industry. That was totally the handmade process. The also told us about the different natural dyes like majeet for pink color, dewara for cream color, ravek chilli for yellow, harrad for green and for black color they use ratal jyot with FeSO4.
They also guided us about the processing. Firstly the yarn is collected than washing is done. The 30-40% alum is added, after that dyes are added for different colors of yarn. CuSO4 and sinday used for color. This process occurs in boilers whose temperature should be 900 C. Different dyes absorbed by different wool at different temperature.
Then we went to the 2nd industry where the weaving and shearing has to be done by the local villagers or weavers. After that the carpet is washed by bleaching powder for cleaning and H2SO4 is added. At last they add NaOH for shinning and softness of carpet. The best thing about the industry is that they recycle the washing water again and again. They don’t waste water. It was a great experience and we came back and reached the college at 1:00 pm.
