Lecture on 2D-NMR Spectroscopy by Prof. R.K. Bansal

Report

Event: Special Lecture Series

Date: 3rd and 5th March 2022

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 01:00 p.m.

Venue: A-304

Topic: 2D-NMR Spectroscopy

Speaker: Prof. R.K. Bansal, Professor, IIS (Deemed to be University), Jaipur

Target Group: Research scholars & Faculty members of the department

No. of participants: 14

Objective: To apprise the learners about the special features of 2D-NMR Spectroscopy and to enable them to interpret various types of 2D-NMR spectra methodically.

A two-day lecture series on ‘2D-NMR Spectroscopy’ by Prof. R. K. Bansal was organized by the Department of Chemistry on 3rd and 5th March, 2022 for its research scholars and faculty members.

Prof. Bansal introduced the topic by highlighting the need and importance of the technique and how useful it is in elucidating and characterizing new unknown compounds.
Through his lecture and a very interactive presentation, he touched upon various domains of 2D-NMR Spectroscopy and how those methods can provide us with the structural environment of a compound. Techniques like COSY, NOESY, HETCOR were discussed in detail and the attendees learnt about their fundamental similarities and differences based on factors like time, sensitivity and significance to a given problem.

The two-day lecture series was greatly received and appreciated by the participants and the entire department graciously thanked Prof. Bansal for his enriching and enlightening presentation.

Outcome: The attendees could identify the types of techniques relevant to their research problems and could solve and interpret the given spectra with the knowledge they acquired from the lecture series.
