Title: One-Day Visit to IISU Innovation Hub
Target Group: PG students
No. of Participants: Students (PG): 12
Objective: To gain scientific knowledge from the scientific models and give exposure of ‘learning by doing’ to the new generation.
The Department of Chemistry, IIS (deemed to be University), Jaipur organized a one-day visit to the IISU Innovation Hub, Kshipra Path Campus for PG students of the department on 4th November 2022. Prof. Y. K. Vijay welcomed the students and briefly introduced about the activities of the Innovation Hub, emphasizing its role in promoting quality education through hands-on scientific exploration. During the visit, Professor Vijay demonstrated a variety of scientific principles using models and experiments. Prof. Vijay explained objects on different scales ranging from cm to nanometres. He explained the Mechanical Transmission Line through a model of 20 identical oscillators mounted on a steel tape with equal spacing and also explained the formation of different interference patterns with mechanical waves. He demonstrated the Optical Microscope and showed the cubical structure of the NaCl crystal through it. Prof. Vijay also explained the atomic arrangement of the atom and defects through a model of 10000 steel balls of 1 mm size placed between two parallel sheets. Different thermodynamic phenomena such as the effect of temperature difference on the density of water, bouncing of LASER Beam from saline water, and Eddy Current experiment through the model was also demonstrated. The students also had the opportunity to conduct experiments and activities on their own, deepening their understanding of scientific concepts. In the end, Prof Vijay also explicated the journey of prominent Indian scientists.
Outcome: The postgraduate students were able to gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts through hands-on experimentation and activities. The students also had the chance to learn about the journeys of notable Indian scientists. Overall, the visit was a valuable learning experience for the students and helped to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of science.
