Activity: Chem draw
Date: 30th August 2016
Time: 1:45-3:15pm
A lecture on "ChemDraw" was delivered by Dr. Neetu Khandelwal for all the M.Sc Students on 30th August 2016 at the IIS University Jaipur who wonderfully simplified the use of Chem Draw program which helped the students to efficiently draw simple two - dimensional representations of organic molecules, chemical formulae and reaction schemes required for their seminar reports, publications, and thesis.
Date: October 7, 2016

Number of P.G. Students: 59
The visit to Mayur Uniquoters, Dhodsar was a wonderful experience for our students. The Mayur group guided them in small groups, taking them to all the plants and demonstrating them all the manufacturing departments. The students were enlightened about the knowledge of manufacturing of artificial leather/ PVC vinyl using 'Release Paper Transfer Coating Technology' and found the visit very relevant and useful for their subject chemistry. They gained various information’s about applications of organic solvents, copolymers and color pigments and the work of certain machineries like Circular Knitting Machines, Brazzoli Machines for washing and bleaching of the fabrics, Hot Slitter Machines, Stenter Machines and also how the manufactured products are inspected chemically and physically in laboratories.
They were made aware of the eco-friendly operations of the industry and its sustainable use of resources by means of Energy and Water Recovery System, Effluent Treatment Plant which ensures Zero Liquid Discharge to the environment.

Title of the lecture: “Peramivir An Idea to Drug”
The session started with the welcome of Dr. Pooran Chand. He detailed about the the Influenza virus. It is highly contagious acute respiratory infection. He throw a light on the evolution in Influenza therapy. Targets for drug design for influenza are Hemaggalitein, Neuraminidase, M2 Proteins and Endonucleus. He has worked on the drug “peramivir”, a Neuraminidase inhibitor. He acquainted the students about an anti viral drug developed by biocryst pharmaceuticals for the treatment of influenza, acting as a transition state analogue inhibitor for influenza neuraminidase, thereby preventing new viruses emerging from infected cells.
He discussed the synthesis and mechanism of the drug and its bioavailability. Peramivir is used to treat influenza in adults who have flu symptoms for up to 2 days. The medicine should be given within the first 2 days when flu symptoms start. He stated that it is usually given as a single dose. He also explained the side effects of Peramivir like confusion, hallucinations, unusual behavior or thoughts. Peramivir will not treat an infection caused by bacteria or fungus.

Venue : E-201
Speaker : Prof. P.V.Bharatam, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, NIPER, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Punjab
Prof. Bharatam gave an insight into the basics of quantum chemistry and computational chemistry. He explained the simple methods to solve Schrodinger wave equation. Besides this he also explained the basics of computational chemistry and its applications in medicinal chemistry. He aquainted the students with the recent advances in drug discovery especially in designing and developing anti cancer drugs. He also focussed on the various aspects like design and synthesis of anti diabetic agents, studies in drug metabolism and toxicity mechanism behind drug encapsulation predicting solubilization and release trend, drug dendrimer, electronic structure of guanidines.
