Objective : The main objective of the activity is to spread the awareness about the use of plastics in a kitchen setting. Specifically, the aim was to educate the residents of Mondiya village about the types of plastics that are safe for kitchen use and those that should be avoided due to potential health and environmental risks.

Summary/Description : An extension activity on “Use of plastic in our kitchen” organized by Department of chemistry, IIS (deemed to be University) on 28^th Feb, 24 at Mondiya village, Niwai. The outreach activity consisted of interactive sessions conducted by students and faculty members from the Chemistry Department. The sessions were designed to engage the villagers and provide them with practical knowledge and tips on making informed choices regarding plastic usage in their kitchens.

The activity included the following components:

Educational Presentations: Students delivered informative presentations on different types of plastics commonly used in kitchen utensils and containers. These presentations highlighted the properties of various plastics, their potential health hazards, and their impact on the environment.

Demonstrations: Practical demonstrations were conducted to illustrate how to identify different types of plastics and understand their recycling codes. Participants were shown examples of safe plastics suitable for food storage and cooking, as well as examples of plastics that should be avoided.

Interactive Discussions: Open discussions were facilitated to address questions and concerns raised by the villagers regarding plastic usage. Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and challenges related to plastic use in their daily lives.

The community outreach activity had a significant impact on the residents of Mondiya village, as evidenced by their active participation and engagement throughout the sessions. By the end of the activity, participants gained a better understanding of the importance of making conscious decisions regarding plastic use in their kitchens. They expressed their commitment to implementing the knowledge gained during the sessions and spreading awareness within their community.

Outcome: The extension activity organized by the Chemistry Department proved to be a valuable initiative in promoting environmental consciousness and responsible plastic usage among the residents of Mondiya village. By empowering individuals with knowledge and practical tips, the activity contributed to fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly community. Also, students get practical knowledge of different type of plastics and their uses. They transform their theoretical knowledge into practical demonstrations.
